Coloplast

The history of Coloplast dates back to 1954. Elise Sørensen was a nurse whose sister, Thora, had just undergone ostomy surgery. Thora was afraid to go out, terrified that her ostomy might leak in public. Seeing her sister's distress, Elise came up with the idea for the world's first adhesive ostomy bag. Aage Louis-Hansen, a civil engineer and plastics manufacturer, and his wife, Johanne Louis-Hansen, a trained nurse, brought Elise's idea to life by producing the ostomy bag. It helped Thora, along with hundreds of thousands of others in similar situations, live the lives they wanted. A simple solution can make a profoundly meaningful difference. Today, our business encompasses ostomy care, incontinence care, wound and skin care, and urology care. We operate globally with a team of over 10,000 employees.
